The course equips trainees with the skills, knowledge and professional attributes to execute and maintain safe and reliable plant/laboratory operations which includes performing unit and utility operations, basic maintenance work, process control system operations and biopharmaceutical operations, in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Trainees are also equipped to manage quality assurance and quality control processes to meet customers’ requirement.

 

Prerequisite:

  • Comfortable with working in a production environment, including laboratory, cleanroom.
  • Able to apply scientific concepts in day-to-day work
  • Complies with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements
  • Good team player and is able to interact effectively with others.
  • Free from colour appreciation deficiency.

 

Job Role: 

The Process Technician executes and maintains safe and reliable plant operations by performing routine process units and utilities operations at plant sites, as well as basic frontline maintenance activities, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He/She monitors process parameters and performs in-process sampling and basic testing to ensure that the product quality is within customer’s requirements.

The Process Technician complies with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements by applying Safe System of Work (SSoW) procedures when performing work activities, and responds to emergencies in the plant as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). He contributes to organisational development by supporting continuous improvement projects.

The Process Technician usually works on a rotating shift, in a team, and in the field. He is a good team player and is able to interact effectively with others.

 

Training pattern:

Block Release - Trainees attend daily lessons at ITE for a continuous period and then resume the next block of OJT at the workplace.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • Chemical Process Technology
    • Mechanical Technology
    • Electrical Technology

    Higher Nitec:

    • Biotechnology
    • Chemical Technology
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

Career Opportunities

Work-Study Diploma in Chemical Process Technology graduates are predominantly employed by oil & gas, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing companies as a Process Technician or Laboratory Technician. 

Career advancement prospects improve as graduates gain experience and enhance their skills and knowledge. Graduates may advance to hold job titles such as Senior Process Technician, Senior Laboratory Technician, Shift Supervisor, Quality Control Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, Process Engineer
