Ever wondered what is inside your mobile devices and electronic appliances you make use of everyday?

Semiconductors play an increasing role in our daily lives today. With greater demand for efficiency and reliability of such materials in the 21st Century, scientific breakthroughs in semiconductor research makes it possible to provide the user with electronic gadgets coming with enhanced capabilities and providing convenience previously impossible.

This diploma course prepares you for a professional career in the Manufacturing sector. You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to implement process improvement in a manufacturing environment, analyse trend chart and detect in-line issues.

 

Prerequisite

An Assistant Process Engineer is able to communicate information with peers to implement engineering processes during daily production meeting.  He/She should be able to analyse, troubleshoot and optimise in-line issues.  As a team player, he/she will contribute to a cooperative working environment by fulfilling own responsibilities and providing support to co-workers to meet team goals. He/She may be required to work in a clean room environment.

 

Job Role:

A Process Engineer is one who is be equipped with the skills and knowledge to implement process improvement in a manufacturing environment to meet organisational objectives. He/She also assist in analysing trend chart and detect in-line issues.

The work he/she performs includes the following:

  • Administer process engineering
  • Monitor out of control processes
  • Conform to standard operation procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvements
  • Support process in-line issues

 

Training pattern:

Day Release - Trainees attend lessons at ITE for two day per a week and spend the remainder of the work-week at the workplace for OJT.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • All courses from School of Engineering
    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology

    Higher Nitec:

    • All courses from School of Engineering
    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

    +In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

  3. Free from colour appreciation deficiency

Career Opportunities

Work-Study Diploma in Microelectronics (Process Track) graduates are employed by major companies in the wafer fabrication plants, and assembly and test operation sector. Some of the job titles held by graduates include Assistant Process Engineer.
