The Work-Study Diploma in Arboriculture & Horticulture adopts a work-study approach to prepare you for a professional career in the Landscape sector.

You will be equipped with skills and knowledge to manage arboriculture and horticulture projects, perform greenery management, apply mechanisation and automation technology, develop landscape operation and maintenance programmes, as well as implement safe work practices at the worksite.

 

Prerequisite:

A passion for working outdoors with an interest in greenery management, applying mechanisation and automation technology to develop the landscape of Singapore into a beautiful City in Nature.

 

Job Role:

Upon graduation, you can choose to go on two occupational tracks:

Arborist – a tree doctor who assesses and maintains tree health, carrying out tree maintenance (pruning, planting and removal) programmes in accordance with statutory requirements and the best arboriculture practices.

Horticulturist – a professional who envisions beautiful sustainable landscapes while ensuring optimal plant health through careful management. Oversees landscape projects and provides advice on plant selection, design and maintenance in accordance with statutory requirements and the best horticultural practices.

Training pattern:

Hybrid Release - Trainees attend daily lessons at ITE for a continuous period at the start, and after will attend lessons for one day per a week and spend the remainder of the work-week at the workplace for OJT.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2 or Higher Nitec:

    • School of Business & Services - Floristry course only
    • School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology 
    • School of Engineering

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

    AND

  3. Free from colour appreciation deficiency

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview
