Join this course and learn to perform rehabilitative activities to clients affected by physical injuries, illnesses, developmental disabilities or psychosocial dysfunctions.

You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to use various therapist-prescribed assessment tools and carry out therapist-prescribed treatment plans for clients affected by physical injuries, illnesses, developmental disabilities or psychosocial dysfunctions. You will also learn strategies to promote health and wellness related to active ageing.

Apply your knowledge and gain real-life (on-the-job) training at nursing homes, community hospitals and day care centres.

 

Prerequisite:

A team player and possess good interpersonal skills. Trainees are expected to assist therapists in educating patients/clients and caregivers on therapeutic interventions. Trainees are to be able to work in fast-paced environment to support department administration and operations.

 

Job Role:

The job role of Therapy Assistant includes & not limited to assisting therapists in clients assessment and conducting assessment & outcome measures for clients as prescribed by the therapist. Other job role includes assist the therapists in carrying out treatment plan, ensure proper documentation of client’s care & progress and maintain inventories & rehabilitation equipment.

 

Hybrid Release - Trainees attend daily lessons at ITE for a continuous 6 months period, afterwhich one day per a week and spend the remainder of the work-week at the workplace for OJT until end of programme.

What you'll learn

  • Supervise, train and mentor therapy assistants/aides
  • Implement group activities for assigned patient/client groups
  • Implement therapy interventions as instructed by the therapist
  • Conduct community reintegration training as prescribed by therapist
  • Provide patient/client and caregiver education as instructed by the therapist
  • Conduct routine assessment and outcome measures for patients/clients as prescribed by the therapist

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview, and be employed as Therapy Assistant;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • Community Care & Social Services
    • Nursing

    Higher Nitec:

    • Paramedic & Emergency Care

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQs) such as WSQ Higher Certificate in Health Support (Therapy Support)
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview
