While using social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter, you may not realise these platforms depend on sophisticated large servers housed in data centres located around the world without any geographical constraint.

This diploma course prepares you for a professional career in the Infocomm Technology sector. Join this course to be a Data Centre Engineer who manages data centre information / network systems, monitors data centre operation and services, maintains internal documentation and performs independent first-level troubleshooting of recurrent issues.

 

Prerequisite:

Understand the basis of computer networking, such as troubleshooting PC and server hardware, and have good organising skill to ensure all as-built drawings, manuals, standard operating procedures are up-to-date and properly maintained. Willingness to perform 12-hr rotating shift work to support 24x7 data centre's critical facilities.

 

Job Role:

The job role of Data Centre Technician includes and not limited to perform hardware maintenance on mission critical systems, as well as perform data and power cable management. Job role also includes accomplish inventory control for servers, components & cables, and supervise the activities of contracted personnel providing services or performing work on the data centre property.

 

Training Pattern:

Block Release (subject to changes) - Trainees attend daily lessons at ITE for a continuous period and then resume the next block of OJT at the workplace.

What you'll learn

  • Implement security measures
  • Monitor network servers and storage systems
  • Inspect and troubleshoot fire protection system

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • All courses from School of Engineering
    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology

    Higher Nitec:

    • All courses from School of Engineering
    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

Career Opportunities

Work-Study Diploma in Data Centre Infrastructure & Operation graduates are employed by data centres.  Some of the job titles held by graduates include Data Centre Engineer and Data Centre Operation Engineer.
