This course integrates mechanical engineering with electronics, electrical and intelligent computer controlled programming and engineering processes. It gives you the widest career opportunities and further study choices to meet your aspirations. The course will equip you with multidisciplinary skills and knowledge, which will enable you to perform work involving assembling, installing, setting up, maintaining of industrial automation equipment and cyber physical systems which include Industry 4.0, digitalization, Industrial Internet of Things and Mobile Robotics.

What you'll learn

  • Install, maintain and service pneumatic and electro-pneumatic controlled systems.
  • Construct and assemble mechanical support.
  • Prepare and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Install and test electrical systems.
  • Install and test peripheral devices and microcomputer controlled systems.
  • Troubleshoot electronics systems.
  • Set up industrial automation systems, modifies PLC program and troubleshoot a simple automated production system at module level.
  • Set up automated manufacturing systems, autovision systems and communication networks.
  • Set up and test-run industrial robot with written test program.
  • Set up precision motion control systems.

Entry Requirements

GCE 'O' level grades in English Language, Mathematics and 1 approved subject:

  • Grade 1-8 in English Language
  • Grade 1-7 in Mathematics (Elementary/Additional)
  • Grade 1-8 in an approved subject: [Biology / Biotechnology / Chemistry / Combined Science / Computing / Computer Studies / Design & Technology / Electronics / Fundamentals of Electronics / Human & Social Biology / Integrated Science / Physics / Engineering Science / Science (Chemistry, Biology) / Science (Physics, Biology) / Science (Physics, Chemistry) / Physical Science / Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry)]

GCE ‘N(A)’ level passes in English Language, Mathematics and 3 other subjects:

  • Grade 1-4 in English Language
  • Grade 1-4 in Mathematics
  • Grade 1-5 in the 3 other subjects; and
  • A total of 19 points or less for English, Mathematics and three other subjects (ELMAB3)*

* Eligible, graduating GCE N(A) students who applied and enrolled during the January intake under the Direct Entry Scheme, will undergo 10 weeks of preparatory programme, followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training.
