Digital Fabrication & Prototyping for Product DesignThe elective is planned around a self-directed design project where students develop design and prototyping skills. Students will be guided through a design thinking process followed by CAD, digital fabrication and leather craft skills to develop a product. Students will practise these skills in a design studio and workshop setting.Related ITE Course: Nitec in Product Design
At the end of the module, students will be able to:Learn the basics of 3D software and its application for CAD creation to produce a shape or form for a product.Applications of 3D printing and hand craft to feel the final 3D form of a designed product from virtual to physical realisation.Understand the craft and technology based approach to product creation, and how these two can be merged in product designDescribe the basic concepts and principles of 3D printing and leather craftExplain the advantages, limitations and applications of 3D printing.
