Build a Robotic Gripper for a Claw Game

This module is designed to provide students with an introduction to advanced manufacturing and the role of robotics in this field. The module will focus on the design, construction and programming of a robot arm end effector. Students will learn how to use the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to design, build and program the robot arm end effector to perform advanced manufacturing tasks such as pick-and-place.

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

  • Create a 3D model of the robot arm end effector using CAD software. They will learn how to use the software to design, model and render objects.
  • Prepare the 3D model for printing, including setting up the printer, adjusting the print settings and troubleshooting problems.
  • Understand the principles of robotics, including how robots move, how they are controlled, and how they are programmed. They will also learn how end effectors work and how they are used in various applications.
  • Develop their problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills by designing, building and testing their own robot arm end effector module.
